Council President Lauren McLean


Laurenmclean 2018Lauren McLean has served on the Boise City Council since January 2011 and was elected to a second term in 2015.

In January 2016, she was selected to serve as Council President Pro Tem by her peers on the council. In January 2017, she was selected to serve as Council President by her peers on the council. Her focus on economic development, community justice, and conservation reflects her belief that sustainability and resiliency are necessary ingredients for a city’s long-term success.

Lauren received her BA with honors from Notre Dame where she was on the rowing team and led the Center for Social Concerns Experiential Learning team. She received an MPA in environmental policy from Boise State University.

In addition to her City Council position, Lauren runs a small business and currently serves on the Dean’s Council for the new School of Public Service at Boise State University as well as on the Board of Governors at the Andrus Center at Boise State.  Lauren is a past recipient of the Idaho Business Review’s 40 Under 40 leadership award, the Boise Chamber Leadership Award for Social Responsibility, and a two-time recipient of the Idaho Business Review’s Women of the Year.

Lauren focused her first-term efforts on passing Boise’s non-discrimination ordinance, launching a Sustainability program, encouraging downtown development, and securing a grant to explore Pay for Success opportunities to support Boise’s homelessness and pre-k initiatives.

When not at City Hall, in the office, or cheering from the track bleachers, you’ll find Lauren running or biking Boise’s trails and exploring Idaho’s beautiful backcountry by foot or ski with her husband Scott and children Madeleine and Aiden.
